When they visit Paris, most men fall in love with a French woman… or more :)
Still, during the six months I spent in France, the only one that got my heart was her: a black Ibanez AEG10E electro-acoustic guitar that I had accidentally found in a small shop in Montmartre.
I wasn’t planning to get a new acoustic guitar, as I was working on my custom electric one back in Romania – but I got the Ibanez AEG10E for a very good price, as they were making some promotional sales at the time. During my autumn months in Paris, this guitar was my companion and confidante, helping me build the soundtrack to brand new songs and translate my emotions into music.
Back in Romania, when I started playing club gigs with my band and recording our first songs, the tiny Ibanez AEG10E proved to be priceless: even though my producers would have opted for a dreadnought with much more resonance at any moment, I just loved the crystal clear sound, smooth and slightly held back.
I always have Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings with Nanoweb coating on it (usually 11-52) and change them as frequently as possible to maintain that clean, fresh touch of the sound. By the way, the “default” strings on this model are Elixir.
What I love about Ibanez AEG10E:
- the onboard tuner: I can tune it every time I need to, even on stage
- the action – it just feels so right!
- the cutaway design, allowing easier access to upper frets
- the neck is perfect, not too thick
- the body is slimmer, smaller than most acoustic guitars, making it sound smooth and look great
- her versatility: she’s great when played unplugged and also sounds crisp and clear through my Marshall AS100D amp

On the downside: Allthough I totally love this guitar, being 100% objective requires me to warn you that maybe sometimes you’ll long for / need that full-resonance sound in the studio.
Ibanez AEG10E is a great guitar, but you should keep in mind that she cannot be the only one you rely on – sometimes you might simply need a bigger instrument :D

Hey I just bought a used Ibanez AEG10E and was wondering, how does the onboard tuner work? Does is have to be plugged in to an amplifier to work? I put new batteries in the little slot but nothing happens. Also since I’m just a beginner, what kind of amplifier do you recommend to start with that is good but not so expensive? Maybe between $50 – $100. Thanks for a great article!
