Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to loosen up and remember that being a guitar hero allows you to get goofy from time to time – especially if you get your hands on a guitar like the ones below :)
To lighten up your day after a few hours of intense study, let me present you some of the strangest / most unusual guitars ever made – what’s the funniest design, in your opinion?
Have you ever wondered if Big Foot played guitar? :)
Besides sex, drugs & rock’n'roll, what can you associate to the image of a classic rockstar? A stylish collector’s car, of course! American luthier & musician Stephen McSwain used one of his alltime favorite cars, the 1958 Corvette convertible, as inspiration for this unusual custom guitar. PS: The headlights works and the wheels actually roll! According to Mr. Swain’s website, prices for his one-of-a-kind instruments begin at 5.000$.
Mansons has been one of most respected guitar brands in Englad for over 30 years – well, they usually build “normal” instruments :) However, their toilet seat guitar was a funny example of being practical and cool – now you can actually flush if you need to, after too much shredding :))
While most guitars are all about the wood, this crazy Basone model is more about the weed :D Keeping it natural (and neckthrough), the very creative luthiers opted for flame maple in the neck and Western maple for the body of the instrument, complete with Emerald green finish and two very suggestive inlays. The Smoker’s Delight custom guitar is priced at 3.000$.
How fast can you play cheese? :)
Ready to say “cheese” and play some cheesy licks? Maybe you’ll get some fans among mice :) Allthough I could find no relevant info on this guitar, I found out there are some other models, including “Swiss Cheese” – and even a Cheese Guitar pedal to adjust your sound with :)
OK, I’m joking, this last one’s just Photoshop work :D is anyone cheesy to build it?
Deadly riffs
Remember that scene in “Crossroads”? Well, that’s probably what the designers of these deadly models thought: let’s build some guitars that would make the devil run off without playing a riff :) I couldn’t get that much info on the Gun Guitar pictured above, but it’s sure part of a trend – click here to check out a few more guitars shaped like guns.
This one is a custom ESP sword guitar created especially Takamizawa, the guitarist of Alfee (a very popular rock band in Japan), who is known for his attraction towards Gothic and Angel themes. A guitar built in the ESP Custom Shop costs around 12.000$
Smiley faces
The Pacman guitar was made in 1998 at the request of Dave “Timely” Winer of the Howards and the Baltimores. He called Ian Schneller of Specimen Instruments and told him he wanted to have a blinking headstock that can be syncronized with a beat. Easily said, smilingly done!
Another smiley face:
Creepy guitars
McSwain created the Bela Lugosi guitar especially for ex-Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody, using mahogany and maple polished to shine in the dark (literally!). The inlays are maple wood-burned with a mother-of-pearl cross. The includes DiMarzio pickups and Sperzel tuners.
Back to fluff
This fluffy/furry guitar is one of the two custom models built especially for ZZ Top’s “Legs” video. According to the legends, Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill were drunk when they came up with the idea of covering guitars in lambs wool. Luthier Dean Zelinsky (DEAN Guitars) was the one who built them, adding special spin straps, so that Billy and Dusty could spin the guitars around in circles in front of them.
Hannah Montana guitar? :)
Cute turtle guitar
Mermaid’s song? :)
Surf guitar
Update:
If you have any extra information on the guitars above, please leave a comment and share them! I’d be more than delighted to update the post with details for those interested in purchasing them.
Have fun & rock on!

The one marked “Hannah Montana” is not a Hannah Montana guitar (although those certainly exist!) That’s a Daisy Rock Butterfly model. Daisy Rock specializes in “girl guitars”, including novelty models shaped like flowers, butterflies, hearts, stars, etc…

The one under PacMan is not a face, it is a woman’s body.

@Alec
